FEMA Basic Academy Completion

Upstate University Hospital Emergency Management Staff Complete National Emergency Management Basic Academy 

Christopher Dunham, MBA and Brad Marmon, MPH of the Upstate Emergency Management Department, recently graduated from the National Emergency Management Basic Academy.

The Academy is a series of training courses that offer education in Emergency Management Principles, Science of Disaster, Emergency Planning, Exercise and Evaluations, and Public Information that totals 112 hours of training.

The Academy, which is the first-ever to take place in the State of New York,  was sponsored by the New York State Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Services (DHSES) in Oriskany, in partnership with the Emergency Management Institute in Emmitsburg, Maryland.

The goal of the academy is to bring federal level training to local municipalities and organizations to support overall community resiliency. Through this unique achievement, the SUNY Upstate Emergency Management Department hopes to continually share lessons learned and best practices to better protect our patients, staff and students.
